To many people a drone (UAS – Unmanned Aircraft System) is a fascinating toy providing hours of entertainment. In trained hands, however, it can be used as a tool providing spectacular aerial photo and video coverage not otherwise possible. What’s important to understand is how the government has a very fine line as to how they consider drones can be used for commercial purposes.

I hold a Federal Aviation Administration CFR Part 107 UAS Remote Pilot rating as well as a license with the Minnesota Dept. of Transportation as a Commercial Pilot qualified for both Aerial and Thermal Imagery. In addition, all of my UAS are registered (taxed) by both the federal and state governments in strict accordance with current laws. Finally, my business carries a $1,000,000 general liability policy covering the use of my aerial photographic equipment against damage or personal injury.
